Sta Rosa Sports and Hobbies
Your Gateway to Active Lifestyle in Santa Rosa

Sta Rosa Sports and Hobbies lists below the Top Sports/Physical Activities and Hobbies that are loved by Santa Rosans. Not only are they stress relievers and good for the health, they bring about sense of camaraderie and community to all those involved in them. The healthier the people in a place, the more productive they are. For me, this is one of the reasons why Santa Rosa City is developing in such a rapid pace. The people are dynamic and can easily cope with past changing development in the area – how? They have the energy and physical stamina to do it. Are you ready?

Let’s get that adrenaline pumping.

sta. rosa basketball

Basketball

– if you are a Filipino, hands down this is your favorite sport or physical activity especially if you are taller than most people. It is difficult to shun this sport because it is ever present in every subdivisions, barangays, and in school campuses. Find a tree, post, or wall with ample space around it enough for even just a half-court, and then you can start dribbling and shooting and imitating the swagger of Kobe Bryant (your idol?). Whoosh, that’s the sound of your ball going thru ring less – Nice Shot! So far the best basketball court I played on is located at Westgrove Clubhouse. This indoor baskeball court has wooden floors and fiber glass boards…you can play there the whole day –rain or shine.

badminton sta. rosa, winner badminton court

Badminton

– is still the fastest racket sport. Men's doubles player Tan Boon Heong of Malaysia set the official world smash record of 421km/h in the 2009 Japan Open. This is still one of the most popular sports here in Sta. Rosa. Something about smashing that shuttle cock and going for those near the net drop shot that is so appealing. Need a lot of conditioning though and understanding the basics for you to enjoy it and prevent yourself from any injury. One of the best places to play badminton is Winner Badminton Court along San Lorenzo Boulevard. You can’t miss this yellow painted building just a few meters away from Enchanted Kingdom.

airsoft sta. rosa

Airsoft

- is an activity used primarily for recreation or sport wherein replica firearms shooting 6mm or 8mm plastic rounds are used for personal collection, gaming (similar to Paintball), or professional training purposes (Military Simulations and Police training exercises). This one I have not tried but I am sure is a lot of fun. There are lots of Airsoft Team here in Sta. Rosa as there are lots of areas where they can play it. Loma besides Laguna Technopark I heard is popular and so as the compound of the previous Kalesa Kape. Just make sure you have the proper gear and face protection – I hate seing violet marks. If you are hit admit it. Honesty is still the best policy in this sport/hobby =)

swimming in sta. rosa, sta. rosa swimming team

Swimming

– is the best exercise since it utilizes all body parts in all range of motions. I like to swim a lot at the beach and in swimming pools. Unfortunately, I don’t swim well, maybe I will drown if have me swim for waters greater than 7 feet deep. Still, I enjoy swimming but just on shallow waters where my feet can still touch the seabed or flooring of the pool. Thus every summer, I always take the opportunity to have my kids enrolled on swimming lessons especially those offered by Milo Best. So later on, they have the ability to save me before I drown hehe.

Most swimming pools are located at Subdivision’s clubhouses where some Sta. Rosa Swimming teams do their trainings like the one in Villa Caceres. Laguna Bel-Air, La Joya de Santa Rosa, South Forbes have nice swimming pools where you can cool down especially during summer time or do low-joint impact exercise if that’s what fits you.

cycling in sta. rosa, cycling sta. rosa

Cycling

– this for me is Hard Core Biking. If can’t help but admire these guys who are riding those bikes with such speed even uphill going to Tagaytay. It is hard to believe that those guys age are on their late 40’s. They can out race you any given day. If we have to learn anything about keeping yourself physically fit –we need to hear it from these guys. Keep it up!

sta. rosa running, greenfield city run, celebrity run

Running

– Running is probably one of the best physical activities people can do to improve their health. It doesn’t require a particular outfit; no major equipment is needed, and has no age requirements. Slowly but surely this sport is picking up in Sta. Rosa Laguna. Go to Sta. Rosa Running page for all things happening in the world of RUNNING in Sta. Rosa and the rest of the Philippines.

The big boost came from the 2009 Greenfield City Run that started at the Paseo Commercial Center. This race route took the participants through the expanse of Greenfield City from United Boulevard through Pramana Residential Park and its modern Asian homes, then take the scenic route to Mamplasan via Greenfield Parkway. The Mamplasan area provides a nice contrast of views with the rural backdrop of a few rice fields on one side, and residential communities on the other. That race was available in 2K (for kids), 5K, 10K, and 21K (half-marathon) run.

I myself is enjoying and learning this sport. After my friend, a marathoner informed me of Takbo.ph website, I got hooked. Have joined the Philstar Celebrity Run held in Fort Bonifacio last December 20, 2009. Looking forward to joining races 1x/month. Hopefully I can sustain it and reach my ideal weight and waistline soon.

There are a lot of jogging and running paths in Santa Rosa but the one that is considered a favorite like the Quezon City Memorial Circle is the big parking space of Enchanted Kingdom. A lot of families play badminton or simply run several times along its inside perimeter ( approximately 800 meters for 1 round ) just before the theme park starts operation for the day. It is a site to behold and would not exchange those precious moments exercising with families and friends for anything else.

mountain bikers sta. rosa, mountain biking sta. rosa

Mountain Biking

- Sunday mornings is like Sta. Rosa Mountain Biking day. Normally the mountain bikers converges I Paseo de Santa Rosa. All people from all walks-of-life loves mountain biking. They come here as far as Batangas further down south and Manila from the north. Basketball cagers, actors, singers, and other celebrities have picked up this sport as well. The fun and thrill is on going through muddy trails and seeing what you have on paintings as country side. Now, it is you and the bike. Go grab those handle bars, push those pedals, enjoy the breeze and freedom that comes when activity is in harmony with nature.

If you are into mountain biking, you must have heard of the infamous Cardiac Hill. Nestled at the border of Silang Cavite, this hill is famous among cross-country (XC) mountain bikers. Bukuhan, Mango, Website, Coffee, Upak, Duck are the names and trails you’ll get to know in this area. This where they separate the boys from the men- conquer it! The FORCE will be with you all the way.

photography, sta. rosa photography

Digital Photography

–is a form of photography that uses digital technology to make images of subjects. Until the advent of such technology, photography used photographic film to create images which could be made visible by photographic processing. By contrast, digital photographs can be displayed, printed, stored, manipulated, transmitted, and archived using digital and computer techniques, without chemical processing.

This hobby is becoming popular here Santa Rosa Laguna, other than the advantages of digital photography and advances in technology, I guess it’s because of so many interesting subjects and places that you can shoot here in this green and beautiful city. Easily you can capture something that can be considered priceless even if what you use is just a camera phone, a point and shoot. Of course, if you want to take your digital photography to the next level and maximize the use of technology, a DSLR is a must have. There is so much to shoot and so little time. Ok, take a pose. Click! Beautiful! =)

Like any other page in this website, look forward to updates as me, family, and friends get to know more exciting activities, hobbies, and other sports that goes mainsteam here in Santa Rosa City Laguna. Your favorite sports and physical activities if not mentioned here, please feel free to comment and help me add them here. To a healthier you! =)
